Launching a Two-Year Study on Queen Cell Builder Efficiencies

At The Beekeepers Academy, research isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we do. Today marks the official start of a new two-year research project aimed at understanding and improving the efficiency of queen cell builders.

We’re beginning with four standardized cell builders and will be tracking a range of variables across multiple rearing cycles. The goal is to better understand how management practices and resource inputs affect queen cell production and, ultimately, queen quality.

We won’t be publishing detailed methods or results yet, but we will share updates as the project progresses. Here’s a quick look at the cell builders as we're preparing them:

Four queen cell builders in place as we begin our two-year performance study.

This is part of a larger effort to generate practical data that informs our teaching and supports the wider beekeeping community.

We’ll share more as meaningful data comes in. In the meantime, follow along for a behind-the-scenes look at how we’re managing and evaluating our queen cell builders.
